The Sugar Plum Fairy
"And visions of Sugarplums danced in their heads..."
This famous line from the beloved story and ballet, "The Nutcracker," now rings true in the hearts of little girls in Statesboro and surrounding areas. The Sugar Plum Fairy, can help every little girls' dreams come true whether she is being fitted for her first pair of ballet shoes or a young woman in search of a dance wardrobe suitable for studying at the acclaimed Juilliard School of Dance.
Rori M. Redding, daughter of Helen W. Redding and Jim P. Redding of Statesboro, recalls the years of travelling to Savannah, buying at dance conventions in hopes of one day opening her own boutique for aspiring dancers. This became a reality in mid-2002 when Rori established her first boutique in Hahira, Ga., just outside of Valdosta. She operated an identical store there for four years before The Sugar Plum Fairy pirouetted its way into Statesboro. With a staff of trained employees and accomplished dancers, The Sugar Plum Fairy has made the difficult task of finding dance gear locally a fairy tale no more.

Rori M. Redding - Owner/Dancer
Rori grew up in a dancer's family. She began dance classes at the age of two and continued dancing and performing until the age of 25. However, her experience is not limited to dance. By the age of 19, Rori had completed a modeling contract with the nationally-acclaimed John Casablancas Modeling and Career Centers of Atlanta, and three years later was offered a two-year contract in Los Angeles. However, Rori and her family decided a move to California was not her calling.

Rori's love of dance shines bright in her smile as little girls waltz into The Sugar Plum Fairy twirling in their tutus and costumes, or when she fits a teen in her first pair of Pointe shoes.
With a mural of "The Sugar Plum Fairy," painted by Rori's mother, adorning a side wall the store is separated into sections for adults, children, accessories and shoes, each as whimsical as the next. One could wander for hours admiring the different frills and intricacies lining the walls. Rori also provides a small dance floor with bars and mirrors. "I want my customers to be able to try things out before purchasing- which is something you can't do when you buy online," she says.
Don't the let the pink paint and name fool you. The Sugar Plum Fairy is not just for ballerinas. Rori also provides apparel for activities ranging from dance, gymnastics, cheerleading, praise wear, ballroom, swing, and salsa dancing!
Visiting The Sugar Plum Fairy is an adventure, and many moms and dancers have made it a weekly retreat before or after dance or gym class. The pale pink house on East Grady Street is a convenience to local dancers and gymnasts, but it is also a wonderful addition to the Statesboro community. It's obvious that Rori has brought something unique to Statesboro besides the color of her store. Her love of dance has made shopping at The Sugar Plum Fairy a mystical experience.
